What Is the Evidence on the Impact of an EHR on Patient Care and on My Practice?

Webinar Overview

Dr. Taylor will review the literature on the impact of the EHR in outpatient practice.  In this webinar, he will use a balance sheet approach to outline the pros and cons of the EHR with regard to clinical and economic outcomes, patient and provider satisfaction and clinic/staff functions.  EHR skeptics and evangelists alike will benefit from this balanced review of the literature.

Following this webinar, participants/participating teams will be able to:

  1. Describe how clinician experience affects their perception of the benefits and/or problems with EHR in their clinical setting.
  2. Describe the impact of EHR in outpatient primary care setting. Specifically, they should be able to list one pro or one con of the EHR described in the medical literature for:
    1. Clinical Outcomes
    2. Economic Outcomes
    3. Patient Satisfaction
    4. Provider Satisfaction
    5. Impact on Clinic & Staff
  3. Make a reasoned decision about the benefits and harms of implementing an EHR in their practice.

  • Windows® 2000, XP, 2003 Server, Vista or Windows® 7
  • Cable modem, DSL, or better Internet connection
  • Minimum of Pentium® class 1GHz CPU with 512 MB of RAM (recommended) (2 GB of RAM for Windows® Vista)

For Mac®-based participants:

  • SafariTM 3.0 or newer, Firefox® 3.0 or newer (JavaScriptTM and JavaTM enabled)
  • Mac OS® X 10.4 or newer – Tiger®, Leopard® and Snow Leopard®
  • PowerPC G4/G5 or Intel processor (512 MB of RAM or better recommended)
  • Cable modem, DSL, or better Internet connection

To receive a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1Credit(s)TM you should:

  • Attend the webinar and view the presentations provided for this CME activity
  • Complete and submit the attestation provided on O-HITEC website
  • Complete and submit the evaluation form post webinar
